Gregg Williams, Brian Schottenheimer To Join Jeff Fisher With St. Louis Rams
The big news just keeps coming out of St. Louis after the Rams landed Jeff Fisher as their new head coach on Friday. Fisher and the Rams’ front office have been in the process of reaching out to potential coaches as they attempt to assemble a dream staff of sorts. Last year, the offseason talk all centered around the Philadelphia Eagles and their dream team, but this year the Rams are looking to keep that discussion focused on the sidelines.
There are reports that former New York Jets’ offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer will be taking over the same position under Fisher in St. Louis. Schottenheimer came under fire this past year when Mark Sanchez and the Jets offense sputtered as the team missed the postseason, but he is still very highly regarded across the NFL landscape and should make a tremendous OC for Sam Bradford and the Rams.
On the other side of the ball, New Orleans Saints’ defensive guru Gregg Williams and his blitz-happy schemes are expected to also join Fisher in St. Louis. Williams did wonders at every stop of his career as the defensive mastermind and surely that is what Fisher and the Rams expect from him when he arrives.
Clearly there are some holes on the Rams roster that need addressed as well this offseason, but many believe coaching was largely to blame for the team’s ineptitude in 2011. With a cast of highly coveted names like these all assembled on the same coaching staff, it will be hard to point fingers at the men in charge in 2012.
