Josh Freeman Saves Bucs Season In Week 2
Heading into the second half on Sunday, down 17-0, the Bucs looked tired, slow, and not ready to play. But soon afterward the Bucs got a fire lit beneath them and started to play the way that everyone said they would. Roaring back from a 17 point deficit to win 24-20 on a LeGarrette Blount touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Now even though the Bucs defense looked horrible in the first half against the Vikings, they did step it up in the second half and made the stops necessary to win.
On the other side of the ball the offense looked horrible in the first quarter once again, gaining only 45 yards and not even coming close to scoring. The second quarter was much of the same until early in the third quarter when LeGarrette Blount caught a short pass and went 27 yards for a touchdown igniting the Bucs offense and beginning a comeback run. Sometimes when a team plays slow and lackadaisically, looking like they don’t even want to be out on the field, someone needs to get something started.
That is exactly what Josh Freeman did for the Bucs, late in the fourth quarter when Josh Freeman took over on his own 20 yard line there was no guarantee that his team would come out on top. Although Freeman is known to have somewhat of a clutch gene, he hadn’t been playing up to his fourth quarter potential thus far in the early season. But Sunday against the Vikings he delivered, and delivered big. Starting off 0-2 would certainly put the Bucs in a bad position to achieve their goals this season .
What Freeman did for the Bucs will not be accounted for in the stat line, or the box score, but it will certainly be noted in the Bucs locker room. Josh Freeman saved the Bucs season and gave them hope for the remainder of it. Freeman put the Bucs in prime position to hit their stride, so to speak, and begin a run to the playoffs.
