Steven Stamkos brought the Tampa Bay Lightning something to be proud of after recently being officially out of the playoff race.

Steven Stamkos set a single-season record of five overtime game-winning goals in a 3-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets. The win put the nail in the coffin for the Jets dream to win the 2012 Stanley Cup who were officially knocked out of contention for the playoffs.

The goal was Stamkos 56th of the season. Five above his career-high 51 he scored two seasons ago and he is nearing another achievement. Stamkos has 92 points and is only four away from beating his career-high that he also set two years ago.

Though Stamkos will not be making the playoffs this year Stamkos reached the 50-goal mark for the second time in his four year career, set an NHL record for overtime game-winning goals in one season, is approaching a career-high season point total and can possibly reach the 100-point mark for the first time in his career.

Stamkos is currently on a five-game point streak as well as his best point streak since his six-game point streak that started in late February into early March. He had four goals and nine points.

In his current streak he has six goals and eight points. Averaging close to two points per game he will need to improve a little bit if he plans on reaching this milestone.

That would also include reaching a season-high nine game point streak. This is a feat that isn’t easy to reach and scoring as much as he needs to could make it even tougher but it is possible.

Stamkos came close once this season to the streak he is looking to achieve. On November 22nd in a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs Stamkos began an eight-game point streak. He had five goals, 11 points and two multi-point games.

Luckily for Stamkos his next game is against division rival the Washington Capitals. Stamkos currently averages one point per game against this rival team this season. He has three goals and five points in five games against the Capitals. He knows how to get points against Washington but he’s going to need to do a little better than usual.

Stamkos and his teammates in Tampa will also be looking to play spoiler Monday April 2nd against Washington. The Capitals are currently sitting in eighth place in the Eastern Conference two points ahead of the Buffalo Sabres. The Lightning are 2-1-2 against the Capitals this season and will be looking to shut down a team who has given them headaches all year.
