Titans’ Offense Will Miss Mason
Apparently this is the way he wanted it, but Tennessee Titans offense will not be the same without wide receiver Derrick Mason will not be returning to the team, or football for that matter.
Mason was drafted in the fourth round in 1997 when the Oilers were in Tennessee. He ranked fifth in his eight years in all-time receivers with 453 receptions totaling 6,114 yards with 37 touchdowns.
Being a part of the 1999-2003 teams of which included outstanding players like Jevon Kearse, Blaine Bishop, Frank Wycheck, Steve McNair, and Eddie George, the guy knows a thing or two about the game. Which is one reason he wanted to leave on his own. Healthy and on top.
Last week Mason sat down with Scout.com and explained why he wanted to leave on his own, despite nothing being wrong physically with him and not being in danger of any trades.
“I’m done, I won’t be playing football. I only knew one way to play football, going all-out and having fun out there…That’s one thing, I leave it healthy and able to run and walk and not take a half-hour or 45 minutes to get out of bed. I can jump right out of the bed and go. I don’t have lingering pains as of now. Me leaving now, even though it didn’t happen the way I wanted it to happen, I had a good run. It was fun while it lasted.”
He felt like his smaller size was a big set-back but it didn’t prevent him from tallying 943 receptions totaling 12,061 yards and 66 touchdowns. Not to mention 156 kickoffs for 3,496 yards, one of them for a touchdown. Mason has 182 punts for 1,590 yards and two touchdowns.
