Earlier today Titans General Manager Ruston Webster spoke at the Golden Bison Luncheon at Lipscomb University. He offered his thoughts and opinions on many different topics all relating to his new position with the team.

One of the biggest concerns with the athletic audience was what kind of changes will be made to the team and what kind of players is the club looking for in free agency and the upcoming NFL Draft.

He addressed the fact that the team needs to be rebuilt. He understands that you have to have a solid foundation in order to have a winning team. Now the Titans had a winning team this past season with a 9-7 record; however I would only assume they want to give it all they have to get back to seasons like 2008 when they went 13-3. To be contenders with teams like Houston for the AFC South.

“As a team I want us to get back to being the old Titans. I remember when I was with the Bucs, when we played the Titans; they plated a fast, aggressive, nasty defense. They were physical and they could run the ball. They were always a tough outing. That’s what I’d like for us to get back to-that kind of style of play. Mike Munchak feels the same way. He was here during all of that. That’s really what I want to see us be.”

I’m not so sure I’m ready to believe his take on the free agency though. Not just yet. According to his interview he stated, “Unfortunately the business side gets in the way sometimes. You can’t keep everybody you would like to and you have to make tough decisions. Those decisions are not always easy and they’re definitely not always popular. For the most part, I feel like when we make our decisions, and in the past when we made our decision, we had all the information. You just do the best for your team and for your owner. I think we’ll draft well and continue to build a good, young core.”

Okay, how about keeping the good veterans you have on the team, you are able to sign both Johnson and Finnegan to future contracts without going over the salary cap. The Titans as of right now sit about $30 million UNDER the NFL cap. Fine, if you would like to draft some new blood, but please for the franchise’s sake, re-sign the guys that are keeping the team afloat.

This guy might be setting Tennessee up for failure. Let’s see if his little plan works. Fingers crossed Tennessee fans.
