It is perfectly clear and has been stated numerous times in Nashville that quarterbacks Matt Hasselbeck and Jake Locker will have to compete in training camp for the starting position.

How great is it for Tennessee to have this “problem”, considering the release of Vince Young and trusted two new guys to take control.

Fortunately too, Hasselbeck and Locker are close friends and are not letting the competition of the starting position get in the way.  Hasselbeck reported last month that he agrees with Head Coach Mike Munchak and his decision of keeping his options open.

And Jake Locker released a quote today to Mark Howards, Frank Wycheck and Kevin Ingram of 104.5 The Zone, Nashville’s radio station. He stated that, “By us going out and competing as hard as we can every day against each other is only going to bring out the best in each of us, and at the end of the day the best guy will play, I don’t think that it’s any different of an approach than we took last year. Every time I practiced I was preparing for a chance to possibly start, and that’s how Matt is. You understand it as competitive guys that have played their whole life and have been used to being on the field.”

While Hasselbeck has more experience as far as time and years played, Locker is a solid bet coming out his rookie year with 34 of 66 passes. Of which added up to 542 yards. He was only sacked once and threw no interceptions in the five games that he played.

This is a very good problem for the Tennessee Titans going into the 2012 season. Who do you think will end up starting for them?
