Titans Signing Kamerion Wimbley will set up for a Solid Defense
The Tennessee Titans let a few defensive players go in free agency including Defensive tackle Jason Jones and Defensive End Dave Ball.
Jones was able to get a one year deal with the Seattle Seahawks and Ball is yet to be signed by another team.
This was one of the scariest, riskiest things that I have seen Tennessee do in a long time. Besides the chase for Peyton Manning. At least when they were chasing Manning, they knew they had good quarterbacks to rely on if it didn’t work out. But really, not having any defense? That’s the problem here guys. The defense is hurting the worst in Tennessee, not the quarterback position.
Little did I know that beyond not getting Manning, and signing Steve Hutchinson, that the Titans were looking to get a solid defensive end, even before the draft. Both head coach Mike Munchak and General Manager Ruston Webster made comments at the NFL Combine that defense is what they would be focused on during the draft.
This is a great move by the Titans, Kamerion Wimbley is a 6-year veteran with many articles on his resume. Originally a first round (13th overall) pick in 2006 to the Cleveland Browns, he has grown into a mature player with a total of 42.5 sacks in just 94 games. When you look at it that way that means close to half the time, when a team plays the Titans, the opposing quarterback is going to get sacked at least once in the game.
Last year the Titans had 28 sacks in 16 games. But with the defense flying away in free agency, Kamerion Wimbley is a solid defender to sign. When he was with the Browns, he tallied eleven sacks his first year, a Browns’ rookie record. During his total of four seasons with the Browns, he racked up 26.5 tackles. He played for the Oakland Raiders for the last two years, totaling 16 sacks.
