Nothing in the world can be harder than focusing on your profession while your family’s life is in danger. But that is what running back Darius Reynaud has had to learn to do over the last few weeks.

The Reynaud family lives in New Orleans and with the most recent severe weather, tropical storm Isaac, reaching land fall, Reynaud’s family was forced to evacuate their home. Fortunately, with Darius living in Nashville, his wife and two daughters had some place to go. Reports stated that his parents also planned to evacuate the area.

Reynaud stated last week when the thought of evacuation became a must verses a thought that, “The last couple of years there haven’t been direct hits, it tends to turn. This is looking like it could be a direct hit, so you don’t want to play with that. You can’t take any chances.”

With his family safe Reynaud is able to put his entire focus into football, he is still fighting for a roster spot and with more cuts coming in the next 24 hours, it’s a tough thing to do. He went undrafted in 2008 but was signed with the Minnesota Vikings after the draft. In September 2010 he was traded to the New York Giants and New York waived him just a few days later.

Last season he spent his days rehabbing some minor injuries and strengthening his hamstrings, the Tennessee Titans signed him on January 6th of this year.

He has played in a total of 23 regular season games and appeared in two post season games. He has an average of 8.3 yards on 58 punt returns for 440 yards. He’s been involved with 33 kickoffs and a long of 49 yards. But a lot like recently injured wide receiver Marc Mariani and his first year in the NFL, Reynaud has yet to capture a carry or reception.

Head coach Mike Munchak wants to see more of Reynaud at running back but realizes the priorities, especially with Mariani’s injury last week. Over the weekend he talked about his expectations and what might happen considering that Tennessee usually keeps three running backs on their 53 man roster, and the Titans have Javon Ringer, Jamie Harper and of course Chris Johnson.

“Obviously, returner is going to become a priority now because of the injury last night, so he’ll get a chance to catch more punts and so things like that, to where maybe he hasn’t had as many of those in the past.”

The Titans host the New Orleans Saints tonight in the final game of the preseason. Reynaud may get his last shot before final roster cuts.
