The Tennessee Titans have hired Nate Kaczor as their assistant offensive line coach.

For the past four seasons Kaczor has been with Jacksonville as an assistant special teams coach. He was working with the offensive coach, Bruce Matthews. Last year the Jags went 5-11 splitting games with Tennessee.

Art Valero, Tennessee’s most recent Offensive assistant coach did not get his contract renewed. He was asking to coach a position group and head coach Mike Munchak released a statement saying that the Titans could not offer Valero the chance that he wanted. This is besides the fact that Munchak like Valero’s energy and background.

Earlier today Titans General Manager Ruston Webster spoke at the Golden Bison Luncheon at Lipscomb University. He offered his thoughts and opinions on many different topics all relating to his new position with the team.

One of the biggest concerns with the athletic audience was what kind of changes will be made to the team and what kind of players is the club looking for in free agency and the upcoming NFL Draft.

He addressed the fact that the team needs to be rebuilt. He understands that you have to have a solid foundation in order to have a winning team. Now the Titans had a winning team this past season with a 9-7 record; however I would only assume they want to give it all they have to get back to seasons like 2008 when they went 13-3. To be contenders with teams like Houston for the AFC South.

“As a team I want us to get back to being the old Titans. I remember when I was with the Bucs, when we played the Titans; they plated a fast, aggressive, nasty defense. They were physical and they could run the ball. They were always a tough outing. That’s what I’d like for us to get back to-that kind of style of play. Mike Munchak feels the same way. He was here during all of that. That’s really what I want to see us be.”

I’m not so sure I’m ready to believe his take on the free agency though. Not just yet. According to his interview he stated, “Unfortunately the business side gets in the way sometimes. You can’t keep everybody you would like to and you have to make tough decisions. Those decisions are not always easy and they’re definitely not always popular. For the most part, I feel like when we make our decisions, and in the past when we made our decision, we had all the information. You just do the best for your team and for your owner. I think we’ll draft well and continue to build a good, young core.”

Okay, how about keeping the good veterans you have on the team, you are able to sign both Johnson and Finnegan to future contracts without going over the salary cap. The Titans as of right now sit about $30 million UNDER the NFL cap. Fine, if you would like to draft some new blood, but please for the franchise’s sake, re-sign the guys that are keeping the team afloat.

This guy might be setting Tennessee up for failure. Let’s see if his little plan works. Fingers crossed Tennessee fans.

Last June Tennessee Titans Wide Receiver Kenny Britt was arrested under charges on resisting arrest after two plainclothes officers suspected him to be carrying a marijuana cigar. They attempted to handcuff him at a Hoboken car was in New Jersey.

This was Britt’s second arrest in three months and it happened to fall on a day where earlier he went to court for a previous arrest on traffic charges. He has pleaded guilty in the past for his charges.

He did it again today. In a Hoboken Municipal Court Britt paid a downgraded charge of $1,500 fine and pleaded guilty to the charges from last June.

On top of these two charges Britt has have five other run-ins involving police since 2009 and faces many legal troubles in Tennessee.

Hopefully Britt can finally learn this off-season from all of these incidents and turn them into motivation to excel on the field. Tennessee really missed him this season…

Finnegan is by far one of the most aggressive players in the NFL. If you put him on Detroit’s team, we’d all have problems. He has no problem though expressing the way he feels. Though most of us see his actions on the field, many people will tell you that actions OFF the field reflect the performance of an athlete ON the field. He may be tough on the field but the guy has a heart of gold.

In 2009 he launched his own foundation ARK 31. ARK, Acts of Random Kindness, along with his jersey number. One of the big fundraisers that ARK 31 does is a signing fundraiser in which many Titans players sign items to raise money for Leukemia & Lymphoma. To visit more ideas from ARK 31 visit www.ARK31.org Also in 2009, Cortland honored by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as one of Nashville’s “Top 30 Under 30”.

In December of 2009 he was named to the USA Football’s inaugural “All-Fundamentals” Team. This team is made up of 26 men that not only commit on the field but in the community.

Cortland is a proud husband and father of his daughter, Kelsey he was named 2010 Titans Community Man of the Year.

Even the story of how his daughter got her name involves him giving back to his community. In 2010 Cortland discovered a relationship with a high school student whom played volleyball. Her name is Kelsey Towns, a student then at Father Ryan High School. Kelsey was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, which stopped her from doing something that she loved, running. She was to run in the annual Boulevard Bolt on Thanksgiving Day, just like she did every year since she was in kindergarten. Because she couldn’t, Finnegan ended up PUSHING her in a stroller during the whole race. Kelsey is now cancer free after seven rounds of chemo, five weeks of radiation and two surgeries. Finnegan was so impacted by her strength; his first daughter is named after her.

In college, he graduated with a degree in Education and a minor in Family Studies. He grew up with his sister, Felicia who has Down syndrome and passed at the age of seven.

His most recent community acts even involved raising awareness for the Nashville Humane Society’s Unleashed: Dinner with your Dog event. The event unleashed many local fashion designers, jewelry designers and interior decorators. They have all created custom “canine couture” pieces for the runway. A fashion show took place where twelve adoptable dogs modeled off all of the accessories.

Finnegan wants to become a volunteer firefighter and a football coach when his career is finished but while he is still playing, he donates money to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for every tackle that he makes. Not to mention the numerous game tickets and other non-profit items.

Bud Adams is a finalist along with Ravens Head coach John Harbaugh, for the Salute to Service Award presented by the USAA. Congratulations, but who thought this announcement was going to be something bigger?

The Media sure does know how to get ratings. Everyone that usually watches football, (the most popular professional sport) tuned into a game that normally they wouldn’t. By posting on Facebook that Bud Adams had some huge announcement to make.

Many thought he would finally be retiring/stepping down in some fashion. Some were hoping that he was going to sell the team or planned on announcing a big signing that may have happened over the weekend. However, still no big Titans like Johnson or Finnegan are re-signed yet.

Granted it’s a great accomplishment for both men, but was it just making room so that a member of the Titans organization was involved in the game? How disappointed are you with the media’s ramping of this announcement?

The Tennessee Titans are by far not the richest team in the NFL, but they are pretty far under the NFL Salary cap by about $30 Million. And they get to do some moving around in the upcoming 2013 season. But where will they put the money?

In the 2012 season the five highest paid Titans earned a total of $27.18 million.

Chris Johnson topped the list making $8 million per year. Though he is a solid running back and Tennessee’s go-to guy, did he get paid too much? He only rushed for 1,047 yards this year.

Left Tackle Michael Roos was paid $5.5 million this year. He has started every game for seven straight seasons. This is a guy that gets overlooked due to Running Back success like Chris Johnson’s. But HELLO, he only allowed two sacks this year. If I’m Matt Hasselbeck or Jake Locker, guess who I want blocking my blindside?

Speaking of Matt Hasselbeck, he ties Roos with $5.5 million made last year. Plus late last year he received a $6 million signing bonus.

Right Tackle David Stewart racked in $5 last year while only allowing three sacks. He takes after Roos as far as dedication goes. The O-line may need some help but it would be smart for Tennessee to keep these two exactly where they are.

The Center. Eugene Amano was paid $3.18 million and has been questionable. Maybe this is going to be a game changer for the Titans. They will have to try and do something about the nine year contract he has left though…

The Titans also have seventeen unrestricted free agents. They have a lot of opportunity to make some big changes and it’s going to be exciting to watch this team unfold. March and the free agency deadline can’t come soon enough.

Yesterday afternoon the Official Tennessee Titans posted answers to a poll question that they asked on Facebook. “What position do the Titans most need to address in free agency and the draft?”

Though the question is still pending both on Facebook and the front office in Tennessee, some of the fans’ answers were made known.

As of this afternoon, 1548 people have voted and divided the needs into eight categories.

Of the 1548 voters, 330 of them want help with Wide Receivers, 48 voted towards Running Backs, 781 votes to the O-Line, and 22 preferred Tight Ends be addressed.

On the other side of the line of scrimmage, 41 went with Linebackers, and 199 voters took the D-line. 53 votes favored the Cornerbacks and 74 wanted Safeties. Few commented that a Coaching change needs to be made in order to have a team with a record better then 9-7 this coming year.

Everyone knows that the Offensive line needs a lot of help. It is becoming very repetitive that fans want re-signings to go on and help with the O-line. Tennessee has two great Quarterbacks but both Hasselbeck and Locker are not going to help get above 9-7 if they don’t have anyone there to protect them. If a Quarterback could stay in the pocket for 30-45 seconds per play, it would be a perfect world.

Webster has been the new GM for the Tennessee Titans for about a week now and his agenda is already full. He has himself organized though as he sat down with Titans All-Access this week to talk about the next few months and the Titans ideas for a better season.

One of his first goals is to get everyone to sit down and evaluate players, whether they are current players or college prospects. He wants to make sure they grab hold of a solid team for this off-season.

Day-to-day operations duties are going to be new for him. Things like being in the equipment room or training room, though he feels a lot of his duties are very similar when making the switch to GM as Munchak from Offensive Coach to Head Coach.

And as always Webster has Mike Reinfeldt to refer to. They have a lot of the same philosophies as far as coaching goes so Webster said there won’t be much change.

Football challenges are still building, Webster understands that the Titans are in no way finished yet, but he released a statement saying “The challenge is to for us is to continue to win and build at the same time.” He is very comfortable with future with both Locker and Hasselbeck. He has no concerns.

The Senior Bowl is this weekend and Webster is excited because the team will be able to evaluate players they have been watching all year, and get a chance to see some play that they haven’t had the chance to see. It is a whole staff event and they all (Reinfeldt, Webster and Munchak) will go down with their scouts to make sure to get the best evaluations.

65 players declared to enter the draft this year. “We get three looks at every player prior to the combine,” stated Webster. This year Webster feels the draft shows strength in the defensive line. Which is good, most people would prefer the Titans to get a better defense.

Tennessee considers it a nice place to be in picking 20. “There’s a lot of pressure in the top ten, but the difference between the 10th guy and the 20th guy are very slim” Webster said.

When it comes to the tougher questions Webster was willing to give a little bit of information on free agency he understands it in three waves. The first wave is where the big money is. The middle of pack is a decent sized contract with decent money and the third wave is where you find your one year contract/not so big money.

March 13th is the free agency deadline. The Titans like that because they have more time to decide. Now they can concentrate on college things, then come back, have have NFL Draft meetings and talk about free agency even after the combine.

Webster closed by stating, “It’s going to be a lot of fun, its stuff I love to do and I’m excited.”

This coming Saturday is the annual Senior Bowl, in which the top college prospects will be able to compete in a game where NFL coaches are able to see for themselves how they compete and cooperate with other players in an NFL setting. The New General Manager, Ruston Webster, is excited and stats that the Titans will “be looking to see if they match up with what we thought about them during the year and see who stands out.”

Tennessee needs some help in many areas and the Coaching Staff knows it. They will be looking for people to fill positions of defensive and offensive linemen, cornerbacks and safeties. One key player that they have their eyes on is Quarterback Brandon Weeden from Oklahoma State.

They seem to have good reasoning behind looking at Quarterbacks. They have a lot of experience behind their belts though and Tennessee doesn’t know who will even be the starter next year between Locker and Hasselbeck. It will be interesting to try to bring in some young blood to follow in the footsteps of these two senior players.

Clemson defensive end Andre Branch and Carolina’s defensive end Quinton Coples are both under the microscope.

The Senior Bowl is the first step to the long road ahead on the road to the NFL Draft. After the Bowl, the combine in Indy takes place and all kinds of professional experiences on college campuses.

Videos of games taken at the Bowl and combine, interviews and practices are going to be the most important from now until April for any college football player hoping to make it into the NFL. The tedious hours for both athletes and Coaches will pay off though once the draft is here.

Munchak’s at it again, he has hired yet another former teammate from Houston onto the staff for the Titans. Keith Millard’s name has been on the back burner in Munchak’s mind for about a year now and it’s finally official that he will be joining the team on staff.

Millard was awarded the Defensive Player of the Year in 1989 while playing for the Vikings. He played eight NFL seasons (Vikings ’85-’91, Seahawks and Packers ’92, Eagles ’93). During those years he recorded 58 total sacks and two interceptions for 65 yards. He has spent the last nine seasons coaching in the NFL. This past year, he was co-defensive line coach in Tampa Bay.

Along with Millard, Munchak added Steve Brown as the assistant secondary coach. For the past nine years Brown has been at the University of Kentucky. Of those nine years, six of them were spent coaching as the defensive coordinator. Ironically he has spent six seasons with the St. Louis Rams, which included the 2000 season and a Super Bowl win over the Titans.
