The Texas Rangers have a new coach; Greg Maddux is leaving the Chicago Cubs to become a special assistant for the Rangers. The move comes following the Cubs picking Dale Sveum as their new manager over Maddux’s brother, Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux.

Greg Maddux’s decision to come to Texas is a good sign for the Rangers; Mike Maddux is more likely to remain with the team now that his brother is on board as well. Mike Maddux has done an outstanding job with the Rangers’ pitching staff since arriving in 2008. With his brother’s added expertise as a former Cy Young Award winner, Texas should be in good shape for the foreseeable future.
