The Texas Rangers have ensured three key pieces to the team’s consecutive World Series trips will stick around for at least one more season. On Monday, Rangers outfielder David Murphy and relievers Mark Lowe and Mike Adams each agreed to new contracts with the team.

Murphy’s new deal is only for one year and worth $3.625 million. The Rangers need the consistent hitter around to make more World Series trips in the near future, so only giving him a one-year deal seems puzzling at first, but after a closer look, it foreshadows the like.

Texas also retained newly acquired reliever Mike Adams on Monday, signing him to a one-year, $4.4 million contract. The Rangers brought in Adams in a trade with the San Diego Padres in 2011. After arriving in Texas, Adams went 2-3 with a 2.10 ERA while striking out 25 and walking five. Adams was shaky in his first few appearances as a Ranger, but consistently got better as the season wore on. Apparently he did enough for Texas to bring him back for at least one more season.

Lowe didn’t do a whole lot in 2011, but evidently he did enough to earn a new one-year deal. Texas awarded Lowe with a one-year, $1.7 million contract on Monday, almost doubling his 2011 salary. Lowe only recorded one save in 52 games last season, but the Rangers believe he has the potential to develop into a reliable reliever.

The Rangers still have four free agents that need to be re-signed in catcher Mike Napoli, starting pitcher Matt Harrison, outfielder Nelson Cruz and shortstop Elvis Andrus.
