Texas Rangers Ink Matt Harrison for 2012 Season
The Texas Rangers have ensured that starting pitcher Matt Harrison will be in Texas for at least one more year. On Tuesday, the Rangers signed the lefty free agent to a one-year, $2.95 million deal. By far the Rangers’ weakest starting pitcher in the 2011 playoffs, Harrison wanted more money, but eventually settled.
Harrison wanted $3.5 million for the 2012 season while the Rangers really only wanted to pay him $2.45 million. The two sides met in the middle and now Harrison will be in Texas at least until the lockout comes in November.
Despite his postseason struggles, Harrison won 14 of 23 decided games last season with a 3.39 ERA in 30 starts. Unless the Rangers bring in an ace to replace recently departed CJ Wilson, Harrison will have to come up big in the 2012 playoffs for Texas to have any hopes of a third straight World Series trip.
The Rangers re-signed Mark Lowe, Mike Adams and David Murphy on Monday.
