Another day, more articles about the Jays inquiring about so-and-so closers, etc.

But wait, what’s this? In a small blurb by Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun links Omar Minaya to the Blue Jays, saying that other MLB executives believe that Toronto is the next destination for the former Mets GM.

It would not be the first former GM that Alex Anthopoulous has hired to join him, but perhaps Minaya might be the most…maligned, if the rumor comes to fruition. Fresh off a not-so-amicable parting from the Mets organization, Minaya was generally known as one of the worst GMs in baseball – or at least, the GM in baseball who made the worst trade in history involving Bartolo Colon (even if he did basically steal Johan from the Twins).

According to Elliott, Minaya is friends with Anthopoulous and Jays scout Russ Bovay, which may well pave the way for his arrival here. It’s unclear what kind of position Minaya would have in the Jays front office, and he was reportedly interviewed for the Los Angeles Angels GM job earlier in the off-season. It is reported that the Padres are after Minaya’s services as well.

If there is any truth to this, we will follow up with more at a later time.
