Gary A. Vasquez-US PRESSWIRE

I mean, we’re not totally 100% certain that he is, but the clues sure seem to point that way.

Either, this whole Darvish thing has gotten somewhat out of control on the Twitterverse. From the NY Post report from George King on Thursday evening that sent us Blue Jays fans abuzz, to Bob Elliot from the Toronto Sun reporting that Rogers Communications essentially wrote a blank cheque to get it done (alright, so I’m a little bit skeptical that Rogers would actually do this), it seems as though there’s some sort of general consensus forming among the press that the Blue Jays have, very likely, won the bidding rights to have a little chat with the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters superstar.

Nobody is totally sure, of course. Not yet. Well, nobody besides Kevin Gray, that is. The New Hempshire sportswriter sounded very certain that Darvish will soon be part of the Blue Jays rotation. Gray is a very credible writer, and in my mind, his word is as rock-solid as it gets.

But still, it’s hard not to have a little doubt. We’ve be disappointed before – remember when we were gunning for Aroldis Chapman too? The report from King was very carefully worded, with “believed to” being the main phrase. What if they’re wrong? What if all this press is just a carefully constructed troll by the Seattle Mariners? After all, the Fighters aren’t expected to officially announce their decision of the bid until Tuesday, and it has been stressed by just about everyone that all of this consensus came from one published report.

There is consensus among those who are “in the know”, though. That consensus says the Blue Jays are about to talk to a Japanese superstar to join our rotation for what is rumoured to be a sh*tload of cash. The subsequent contract will, of course, cost even more cash, and all in all, it’s probably a somewhat risky propos…you know what, now isn’t the time for a cost/benefit analysis; now is the time to look at Darvish highlights and think of the best Yu pun (it’s really only be funny once). After all, it’s Rogers’ money, and we (by that I mean Torontonians…and Canadians) all know we’ve been gouged too many times on our cell phone bills.

But I digress. Anyway, we’re just going to enjoy this one swirling rumor and the spotlight while it’s still waiting to be confirmed. Darvish is coming! Probably! Should it not come to fruition, we’ll probably just blame our stingy corporate club owner. And hey, consensus is good, right?

Love,

Toronto Blue Jays

PS: It’s really late, and I’ve read more Yu Darvish puns today than what is recommended for my health. Make it stop. Please.

One Rant to “Dear MLB: We’re Pretty Sure Yu Darvish Is Co...”

  1. Gerry MacCarthy says:

Why would they spend that kind of $$ on a every 5th day player who could be another DiceK when Prince Fielder would make them a fearful team to face??
I know which my choice would be.
