Three days into the year 2012, Brian Burke got busy right away as he traded prospect Luca Caputi to the Anaheim Ducks, for prospect Nicolas Deschamps.

Deschamps who is 21 and a native of Lasalle, Quebec, was a 2nd round (35 overall) draft pick by the Ducks back in 2008. In his first full AHL season last year, Deschamps registered 46 points in 80 games. But Deschamps production has tilted off this season with 7 points in 31 games. I like Deschamps two-way upside and his versatility and willingness to reach his full potential as a hockey player.

Yes, Caputi has not met expectations since he came to Toronto in 2009/10. Caputi has barley completed a season and when he has played, Caputi has not produced much offense in the NHL or AHL. Although I am surprised Brian Bruke traded the Toronto native since he has the prototypical frame Burke likes in his players. Especially when Deschamps is smaller in size than Caputi.

This minor deal was not the only move Brian Burke made today. He called up defenseman Korbinian Holzer to the Maple Leafs and assigned forward Philippe Dupis down to the Toronto Marlies.
