It has been a disappointment thus far with the lack for trades being done this season, especially in the last six weeks. Last year there were several significant that were completed. But with teams such as the Winnipeg Jets, Montreal Canadiens, Minnesota Wild, Calgary Flames and more, who are still in the playoff hunt, these teams are waiting game by game to see if they have a chance at the playoffs or head towards the selling route.

One team that are sellers are the Columbus Blue Jackets.

2 NHL sources told me that #bluejackets Rick Nash is on the market. Nash have a no-movement clause and will controle his destiny.

The focus today is on Rick Nash and when Nash rumours come up, we got to talk about the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Could envision CBJ-PHI-TOR in deal. Nash lands in TOR. Bob lands in CBJ. PHI-CBJ share bunch of TOR goodies.

If these reports are true that Nash is on the market, then the Maple Leafs must acquire him. He’s a franchise caliber player, and at age 27, Nash has plenty of great years ahead of him. Nash is a power forward, which is something Maple Leafs desperately need. Along with Nash grow up in the Toronto area and being a leaf fan all his life. This is a perfect fit for Nash and Toronto.

The only problem is what will the Maple Leafs need to give up to acquire him. I would imagine that one would start off with the team’s top prospect, their 1st round draft pick and a young player already in the NHL.

Remember that Nash has a salary cap hit of $7.8 million 2017-18. His yearly salary is $7.5 million this year, $7.6 million in 2012-13, $7.8 million in 2013-14, $7.9 million in 2014-15, $7.9 million in 2015-16, $8 million in 2016-17, and $8.2 million in 2017-18.

Other teams that could be in the sweepstakes to acquire Nash are, New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, St. Louis Blues and Los Angeles Kings.

Further to RDS story on Nash last night, sources say the Blue Jackets are open to anything that will help their team longterm.
