Toronto Maple Leafs Need Points in Four Game Home Stand
Even though there are 23 games left in the schedule for the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Maple Leafs face a four home game which could potential give them the necessary points to make it to the playoffs or the Leafs could dig themselves into an early grave if they do not come out on top during this home stand.
The Maple Leafs currently sit in 8th place in the Eastern Conference, 6 points behind 7th place Ottawa Senators. But the concern is not who is ahead of the Maple Leafs, but who is behind. As the Winnipeg Jets and Washington Capitals who sit right behind the Maple Leafs in the standings at 64 and 63 points respectively.
Tuesday, February 21st – The Maple Leafs face a New Jersey Devils team who has only taken 1 point out of the two games these two teams have played this season. The Leafs better watch out for Ilya Kovalchuk tonight, his 18 points in 9 games for the month of February is cause for concern. Though the difference in this game may come to the fact the Devils will have five roster players out this game due to various injuries.
Thursday, February 23 – On Thursday the Maple Leafs will have their one and only meeting against the San Jose Sharks this season. The Sharks will be coming in to the Air Canada Center on a bit of a cold note. As the Sharks have only registered 7 points in their 9 games this month. This is a game the Maple Leafs need to take advantage of since the Sharks are not player that great of hockey.
Saturday, February 25th – One of the more vital match ups during this four game home stand is against the Washington Capitals. The two previous contests this season have each team taking one game. I just hope that with Carl Gunnarson coming back tonight will help and elevate the performance of the Maple Leafs. This should be a great breathe taking, due or die game.
Tuesday, February 28th – A team that always seemed to be easier to play than others. The Florida Panthers actually had the Maple Leafs number this season with 5-1 and 5-3 wins. A must win game before the Leafs head out to Chicago to face the Blackhawks.
