Raptors Post Game Report Card: Toronto Drops 5th Straight to Atlanta Hawks
On the Martin Luther King day classic against the Atlanta Hawks, the Toronto Raptors dropped their fifth straight game, falling 93-84. Once again the Raps hung around the whole game, but couldn’t come through in crunch time.
It seems to be a reoccurring pattern with this team. They stick around for 3 quarters, and can’t keep up down the stretch.
Once again, the team was without Andrea Bargnani.
Let’s get to the report:
Offence- B
Positives
The Raptors had their best offensive performance in a while. Leandro Barbosa shined with 22 points, and Jose Calderon was great with 13 points and 11 assists.
Negatives
DeMar DeRozan struggled once again, scoring only 10 points on a poor 5-17 shooting.
Down the stretch, the team failed to keep up with the Hawks and ultimately lead to the loss.
Defence- B-
Positives
The Raps had a solid, not great game defensively. Once again, they kept their opponent below the century mark, and it’s really nice to see the change after watching so many dreadful defensive squads from this franchise.
Negatives
In the fourth quarter, the Hawks just turned it on and outmatched the Raptors defence. No ifs, ands, or buts, Atlanta was just the superior team.
Rebounding- B+
Positives
There’s nothing negative you can say any more about Amir Johnson. The guy just gets the work done. Once again, Amir posted a double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Ed Davis also had a very solid game on the boards, with 11.
Negatives
The Raps got abused by Josh Smith, letting J-Smoove grab 12 off the glass.
Overall, another tough one. It was close, but the Raps just didn’t have enough fight, or talent to pull this one out.
They’ll have a day off before they travel to Boston to play the Celtics.
