Alex Burrows will play his 500th career NHL game tonight against the Nashville Predators. Burrows began his career as a ball hockey player where he won 2 gold medals for ball hockey. He was undrafted by the NHL and Burrows bounced between 3 ECHL teams and at 23, he faced making a life-altering decision when Manitoba Moose GM Craig Heisinger called him in late fall of 2004. He finished the 2004-05 season and posted 26 points in 72 games as a 4th liner. He was recalled by the Canucks on January 2, 2006 after getting 30 points in 33 games. He would score his first career NHL hat trick on Mar 27, 2006 against the Los Angeles Kings. He had 7 goals and 12 points in 43 games as a rookie. His hard-working and his ability to agitate opposing players landed him a permanent spot with the Vancouver Canucks. Burrows would have a career year in the 2009-10 season where he got 35 goals, 32 assists and 67 points. Burrows credits ball hockey for his fitness and discipline through the NHL. From riding buses and hoarding Burger King coupons to stetch $450 a week in the East Coast Hockey League to playing his 500th career NHL game, this has to be one of the best storylines in Vancouver Canucks history.
