It was a fitting end to the career of Chicago Cubs’ pitcher Kerry Wood Friday.
Set to announce his retirement after the game, Kerry Wood whiffed Chicago White Sox’s Dayan Viciedo in the eighth inning. As he walked off the field the Cubbie faithful gave Wood one last goodbye with a standing ovation; Wood tipped his cap to his long-time fans and his son Justin greeted him with a hug before he made it to the dugout.
A fitting end, but certainly an end that was necessary. Wood was battling health issues all season. He was 0-2 with a 8.64 ERA out of the bullpen for Chicago.
