2012 NBA Draft Grades: Bradley Beal to Wizards No. 3
Washington Wizards | Last Season: 20-46 (14th in Eastern Conference) | Draft Picks: 3, 32
Season Summary: The Washington Wizards were inflicted with a case of stupid basketball last season. They spent most of the season trying to stay out of their own way. Last season saw the team send JaVale McGee to Denver for a much more sane Nene and they told Andray Blatche to take a hike. In order to keep John Wall happy, the team needed to clean house and they have moved a lot of the bad contracts around the team. The season was bad, but there were some bright spots for the team going forward.
Draft Needs: After picking up Trevor Ariza and Emeka Okafor, the Wizards are going to be looking at a shooting guard. This could be the surest thing in the draft outside of Anthony Davis becoming the first pick of the draft. If the Wizards don’t take a shooting guard, there’s a serious problem in our nation’s capital.
#3 Pick: Bradley Beal | G | Florida
If you’re a casual NCAA basketball fan, you may have not heard about freshman Bradley Beal until the NCAA tournament. He earned a starting job from the opening game, but early in the year he had a tendency to defer to upperclassman but as the season went along he proved to be a scorer. He attacks the basket and can finish at the rim. Insiders love work ethic and character; he mature both on and off the court for being as young as he is. How’s being the third overall pick on your 19th birthday sound?
2012-2013 Outlook: The Wizards got their shooter, so expect them to make the playoffs in 2012-2013. You have to love the way their roster is set up. They cleared out a lot of the knuckleheads and they finally have something resembling a basketball team. The future is bright for the Wall-led Wizards.
