Remember how much criticism Eli Manning received prior to the 2011 season when he placed himself in the elite quarterback category? Well, after leading the New York Giants to their second Super Bowl in five years–nobody’s questioning Peyton’s little brother anymore as he enters the fantasy football 2012 season as one of the league’s top quarterbacks.
Manning fell just 67 yards shy of the 5,000-yard mark during the regular season to go along with 29 touchdowns and even though Mario Manningham is no longer with the team–there’s no reason why he shouldn’t put up big numbers once again in 2012. Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz–one of the top breakout players from 2011–have the potential to be one of the top wide receiving duos in the NFL and will play a key role in helping the Giants make another run at the Super Bowl.
The NFC East is loaded with talent and it won’t be easy, but New York certainly has what it takes to win the division once again with Manning under center. Even though he ranks sixth on the list of top quarterbacks heading into 2012, Manning could be one of those great pickups in the middle rounds of drafts considering most fantasy owners tend to focus on other key positions in the earlier rounds.
Now that he’s proven himself as an elite quarterback, expect Manning to prove himself even more in 2012 as he looks to stay in that category. Assuming everyone stays healthy, the Giants could be one of the most dangerous teams once again next season.
