Plenty of fantasy football owners jumped the gun early on Michael Vick in their drafts before the 2011 season after he looked like his old dominant self on the ground in 2010 after finishing with 676 rushing yards to go along with nine touchdowns. Unfortunately, Vick failed to match those numbers last season and the Philadelphia Eagles fell just short of the playoffs–but that doesn’t mean expectations shouldn’t be high for the fantasy football 2012 season.
Obviously, the key for Vick to be successful during the 2012 season is to stay healthy considering how many times he tries to run with the football, but the Eagles may not need him to use his legs as much considering all of the weapons he has on offense. Not only did LeSean McCoy emerge into one of the league’s top running backs in 2011, but Philadelphia provides Vick with one of the most dangerous wide-receiving duos in the NFL with DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin–which could mean big numbers for Vick.
He may have been a disappointment last season from a fantasy perspective, but there’s no reason why Vick shouldn’t be considered a top-10 quarterback heading into the 2012 season; owners just need to be cautious when selecting him in their drafts considering how popular of a pick he was in the early rounds last season.
Then again, if he does manage to stay healthy and return to his dominant form from the 2010 season–Vick could end up being a steal in the mid rounds for owners looking for a quarterback that can pass and run.
