DeMarco Murray emerged into one of the biggest surprises of the 2011 season as a rookie when he rushed for 253 yards during an October matchup against the St. Louis Rams and expectations will be even higher for the second-year running back during the fantasy football 2012 season–especially since he’s a member of the Dallas Cowboys.
Murray rushed for 897 yards as a rookie in 2011 after starting in seven of the games he appeared in, but it should be noted that 674 of those rushing yards came during a five-game span–so it’s difficult to determine his value this early on. However, the potential is certainly there for Murray and if he can live up to the expectations–this could end up being one of the top second or third round picks in most leagues.
Jerry Jones has made it clear from the beginning how he believes Murray was one of the biggest steals from the 2011 NFL Draft and he’s excited to see what the former Oklahoma star does in his first full season as a starter for the Cowboys. The ankle injury from last season may have been a reason to be concerned, but all signs point to Murray being just fine for the start of training camp at the end of July.
Expectations are always high for a team like Dallas and the same can be said for a player like Murray after some of the performances he displayed during his rookie season. If all goes well, Murray could end up even higher on the list at this time next year–but let’s wait and see what he can accomplish in 2012 before jumping that far ahead.
