Fantasy Football 2012 Rankings: Dallas Cowboys Tight End Jason Witten
In nine seasons, Jason Witten has only missed one game as a member of the Dallas Cowboys and has become one of Tony Romo‘s favorite targets over the last couple of years–which is why he’s ranked No. 4 on the list of top tight ends heading into the fantasy football 2012 season.
Witten fell 58 yards shy of reaching the 1,000-yard mark during the 2011 season, but the former Tennessee star only found the end zone five times after recording nine touchdowns the year before. With his size and strength, Witten makes it difficult for just about any defender to cover him–which is why he can be such a threat in the Cowboys’ passing game.
Despite leading the team in receiving yards last season, it should be interesting to see what type of numbers Witten puts up in 2012 considering all of the talent surrounding Dallas on offense. Not only should Miles Austin be back at full strength, but expectations will be high for Dez Bryant–assuming he stays out of trouble–as well as the former first-round pick enters his third season in the NFL.
Either way, there’s no reason for Witten not to at least display similar numbers this year to 2011 considering the type of chemistry he has with Romo in the passing game. He may not put up the type of monstrous numbers like Rob Gronkowski or Jimmy Graham, but Witten is still an excellent pass-catching tight end to have on any fantasy football squad.
Expect Witten to be selected in the mid rounds of most leagues.
