Trending Topics: David Ortiz on DL, Madden 13 Released, Offensive Struggles For New York Jets
Here’s a look at the hottest trending topics in the sports world for August 28, 2012.
David Ortiz Placed on 15-Day DL
The Boston Red Sox shipped off a few of their star players to the Los Angeles Dodgers last weekend and now it appears one of their most popular players has the remainder of his 2012 season in jeopardy. Ortiz claims he’ll do whatever it takes to bounce back from this Achilles’ injury and play this season, but that’s always easier said than done when it comes to these types of things.
What’s even more interesting–Ortiz may have played his last game with Boston if he ends up leaving the team during free agency this offseason.
Madden 13 Officially Released With Calvin Johnson on the Cover
Late August means one thing other than the end of the 2012 NFL preseason–the official release of Madden 13. Calvin Johnson of the Detroit Lions will be featured on this year’s cover and fantasy football owners will hold their breath each week as they hope he avoids the “jinx” of being featured on the cover.
It won’t be easy to top the 1,681 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns Johnson recorded in 2011–but it will certainly be fun to watch him try.
New York Jets Offense Continues to Struggle
One of the hottest topics this offseason has been the quarterback battle between Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow for the Jets. While Sanchez seems to be the clear favorite at this point considering his experience over Tebow, it seems like neither quarterback is capable of leading New York’s offense during the 2012 season.
The Jets have been one of the biggest disappointments of the preseason and have yet to record a touchdown over the first three games. If this is a preview of what to expect from the offense during the regular season, it’s going to be a long year for the Jets.
