Rant-O-Matic: Previewing Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants

Football fans no longer have to wait for the start of the 2012 NFL season as the Dallas Cowboys will square off against the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants on Wednesday night in what is expected to be an intense NFC East battle between these two division rivals.

As defending champions, the Giants should be considered the favorites heading in to Wednesday’s game, but they’ll certainly have their hands full against a Cowboys squad looking for revenge from last year. Not only did New York come out on top during both matchups during the regular season, but their Week 17 win was the deciding factor that eliminated Dallas from the playoffs–which was disappointing since they started off the year with a 7-4 record.

Even though it’s new season and a new start for both teams, some of the key factors for this opening game remain the same as both squads look to take advantage of their strong group of wide receivers. While the Cowboys have an explosive duo with Miles Austin and Dez Bryant, the Giants have their own set of weapons in two of the top wide receivers from 2011 in Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz.

Hopefully, the additions of Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne will help Dallas contain Nicks and Cruz in the passing game–which would give them their best chance of leaving the Meadowlands with a win. Still, it’s difficult to imagine the Giants falling short in this one with all of the celebrations set to take place following their latest Super Bowl win–so let’s give them the 31-20 edge over the Cowboys in this game.
