The New England Patriots have every reason in the world to be frustrated after Sunday’s pivotal loss to the Baltimore Ravens considering how close Justin Tucker was to missing the game-winning 27-yard field goal at the end. While this play will be one of many calls discussed from the list of controversial calls that took place this past weekend, there’s a fine line between what should or shouldn’t be said–which Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes clearly crossed shortly after the game.
Spikes took his frustration out over the refs on Twitter after Sunday’s game, calling them a bunch of (expletive) zebras that need to go back to their jobs at Foot Locker. Spikes has every reason in the world to be frustrated over what happened from the team’s game against the Ravens, but to go out of the way and say something like this is both insulting and disrespectful.
Obviously, Spikes will most likely receive a hefty fine for his tweet–but that doesn’t mean this isn’t an issue that needs to be addressed. If the first three weeks have proven anything, it’s these refs clearly aren’t made to be officiating at the professional level and something needs to be done fast to fix this.
Otherwise, the NFL is going to continue seeing their players frustrated over the outcomes of games–which will just cause even more problems for the rest of the season until this mess of a situation gets resolved.
