Rant-O-Matic: Cardinals vs. Astros, Blue Jays vs. Orioles
Despite the Atlanta Braves clinching a playoff berth on Tuesday, the Cardinals are in good shape to earn the second Wild Card spot considering they have a 4 1/2 game lead heading into Wednesday night. What’s even more comforting for St. Louis is they face one of the worst teams baseball has to offer in Houston–so there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be able to extend their winning streak to five games.
Just like last season, the Cardinals are getting hot at the right time as they’ve won eight of their last nine games overall. Hopefully, Chris Carpenter can perform well again for St. Louis after making his season debut last week against the Chicago Cubs.
At this point last week, the Orioles appeared to be one of the hottest teams in baseball and were neck-and-neck with the New York Yankees in the AL East. With one week left in the regular season, Baltimore currently sits two-games back of their division rivals in the standings, but they’re still in good shape to at least earn a Wild Card spot with a two-game lead.
Despite losing three of their last four games, the Orioles have a favorable matchup against a Blue Jays team that sits near the bottom of the AL East standings. Every win counts from here on out–so Baltimore needs to take advantage of this opportunity on Wednesday considering New York won earlier in the afternoon.
