Rant-O-Matic: Looking Ahead to Baylor vs. West Virginia, Ohio State vs. Michigan State

Here’s a preview of the two top games for college football this weekend on the latest edition of Rant-O-Matic:

Baylor Bears vs. West Virginia Mountaineers

What better way to start Big 12 play for both teams than a key matchup between 3-0 teams in Baylor and West Virginia? These teams have two of the most talented quarterbacks in the country right now with Geno Smith and Nick Florence–which means this game could turn into a shootout.

While Smith has nearly been perfect this year while throwing for 1,072 yards to go along with 12 touchdowns and zero interceptions, Florence is right up there with him as the Baylor star has thrown for 11 touchdowns while crossing the 300-yard mark in each of his first three games.

Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Michigan State Spartans

Over the first four weeks, there’s no question Ohio State and Michigan State are the teams to beat in the Big 10–which makes Saturday’s matchup even more exciting to watch.

Whether or not the Buckeyes can march into Michigan State and leave with a win will rely heavily on the shoulders of Braxton Miller–who has worked his way into the list of Heisman Candidates over the last two weeks. Braxton has seen plenty of success in the ground game, but he faces his most difficult challenge yet against a Michigan State squad that has surrendered just 47 points over the first four games this season.

Speaking of the ground game, the Spartans realize how important it is to get Le’Veon Bell going in the ground game considering he’s already recorded two games of 200+ rushing yards so far this season. Ohio State struggled against California Bears running back Brendon Bigelow two weeks ago (160 rushing yards with one touchdown on four attempts) and if Michigan State can figure out a way to do the same with Bell–there’s no reason why they can’t pull off the upset in this battle.
