One of the hottest topics entering the 2012 NFL season was whether or not Mark Sanchez would lose his starting job at quarterback to Tim Tebow if the New York Jets struggled to win games. While the Jets are 2-2 heading into Week 5, discussion is beginning to heat up about whether or not Rex Ryan should make the change at quarterback with the way Sanchez has played over the last couple of weeks.

After an impressive performance against the Buffalo Bills in Week 1 in which he completed 19 of 27 passes for 266 yards and three touchdowns, Sanchez has been nothing but disappointing for the Jets over the last week. Not only has Sanchez failed to complete 50 percent of his passes in each of the last three games, but he’s failed to throw for more than 140 passing yards in two of the last three games.

On top of that, Sanchez has only thrown two touchdowns over the three-game span.

The argument can be made that New York has failed to provide their quarterback with a strong core of wide receivers, but these type of numbers are absolutely embarrassing for any quarterback making the type of money Sanchez is making in 2012. If the Jets continue to struggle, it wouldn’t be surprised if Ryan considered replacing Sanchez with Tebow to see if it would provide a spark for an offense in need of help.

It worked in Denver last year–so maybe Tebow would be able to do the same with the Jets if Sanchez fails to produce over the next couple of weeks.
