New York Jets Owner Woody Johnson Plans on Keeping Tim Tebow Around For Three Years

There’s been plenty of discussion over the last couple of weeks as far as whether or not the New York Jets should replace with Mark Sanchez with Tim Tebow as the team’s starting quarterback. Rex Ryan claims that Sanchez is still the team’s starting quarterback, but Jets owner Woody Johnson discussed the future plans when it comes to Tebow–claiming he plans on using the backup quarterback for the next three years.

Johnson discussed on Wednesday how he plans on having Tebow on the Jets roster over the next three years as his contract runs through the 2014 season. After helping the Denver Broncos reach the playoffs in 2011, many wondered whether or not Tebow would eventually get frustrated and request a trade to a team where he had a chance for the starting job.

If Johnson sticks to his words and keeps Tebow around through 2014, it should be interesting to see how this quarterback controversy develops over the next couple of years–assuming both he and Sanchez stick around. Sanchez has been given plenty of opportunities to prove himself as a starting quarterback and over the last four weeks–he’s completed less than 50 percent of his passes.

Obviously, there are plenty of key factors to keep an eye on with this situation–especially the fact that New York gave Sanchez a five-year deal last March. However, if the Jets’ offense continues to struggle like it has over the last few weeks, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Ryan gave Tebow a shot to see if he could provide a spark like last year.
