Rant and Rise: New York Yankees and Oakland Athletics Rally, San Francisco Giants Force Game 5
Here’s the latest edition of Rant and Rise for October 11, 2012:
The Yankees have to feel better about their decision to bring Raul Ibanez on board for the 2012 season after what he did against the Orioles on Wednesday to give New York a 2-1 lead in this exciting ALDS series. After Alex Rodriguez continued his struggles, Ibanez was called on to pinch hit in the bottom of the ninth inning and would end up hitting the game-tying home run before hitting the game-winning home run in the bottom of the 12th inning.
All of a sudden–Ibanez has established the nickname of Mr. October for at least this season.
What a season it’s been for the Athletics as they’ve embraced the underdog role since the end of June and continued their magic on Wednesday against the Tigers thanks to a thrilling ninth inning to tie this series up 2-2. Seth Smith hit a game-tying two-run double before Coco Crisp recorded the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to give Oakland the 4-3 win and possibly all of the momentum needed to take the series on Thursday.
With the way the first two games of this series went, who would have thought the Giants would be in the position to advance to the NLCS instead of the Reds? Cincinnati could not have asked for a better position a few days ago considering they only needed to win one of three games at home to advance against San Francisco and after a devastating 8-3 loss on Wednesday–it all comes down to one final game.
