Rant-O-Matic: Looking at San Francisco Giants vs. St. Louis Cardinals, New York Yankees vs. Detroit Tigers
If pitching is any indication of what to expect in Game 3 of the NLCS, the Cardinals may have the avantage as Matt Cain prepares to square off against Kyle Lohse.
The last place Cain wants to play is Busch Stadium as he’s 0-2 in three career starts with an 8.27 ERA–with his last start coming on August 6 of this past season. As for Lohse, he’s been nothing but phenomenal for St. Louis at home this season after going 8-1 during the regular season with a 2.33 ERA.
With the next three games scheduled to take place in St. Louis, the last thing the Cardinals want to see happen is have this series head back to San Francisco–so look for them to take advantage of Cain in this crucial Game 3 matchup.
Not only are the Yankees one game away from their season ending and missing out on the World Series, but they’re one game away from being swept by the Tigers in the ALCS. New York hopes C.C. Sabathia–who has a career record of 7-1 in the postseason–can keep their season alive for at least one more game on Wednesday and avoid the sweep.
However, even if Sabathia does pitch a gem, he’ll need some sort of production from a Yankees’ offense that has been nothing but a disappointment this postseason. New York is batting .158 as a team over the first three games of the ALCS–which is embarrassing for this type of high-paid roster.
