2012 Heisman Candidates Week 8: A Look at the Top Five Players

Here’s a look at the top five players for 2012 Heisman Candidates Week 8:

5. Oregon Ducks Running Back De’Anthony Thomas

Unfortunately for Thomas, his production was limited against the Arizona State Wildcats on Thursday as the Ducks went on for another 43-21 blowout win. Thomas finished the game just 29 yards from the line of scrimmage.

4. Notre Dame Fighting Irish Linebacker Manti Te’o

The Irish continue to be one of the biggest surprises of 2012 as Te’o led the defense to another big win over the Stanford Cardinal last weekend. Te’o finished the game with 11 tackles and depending on what happens the next few weeks–don’t be surprised if the linebacker has the Irish in talks for playing in the National Championship.

3. Kansas State Wildcats Quarterback Collin Klein

After last weekend’s win against the Iowa State Cyclones, the Wildcats face another tough task on Saturday against West Virginia. Klein recorded 105 rushing yards and three touchdowns against the Cyclones and could be in for another big game against a Mountaineers’ team allowing 37.3 points per game so far this season.

2. Ohio State Buckeyes Quarterback Braxton Miller

The Buckeyes received a bit of a scare against the Indiana Hoosiers last Saturday, but Miller came up big while throwing for 211 yards and 11 touchdowns. Miller’s the type of quarterback known for his production on the ground as he’s recorded at least 136 rushing yards in each of the last three games and could put up big numbers once again this weekend against the 3-3 Purdue Boilermakers.

1. West Virginia Mountaineers Quarterback Geno Smith

Believe it or not, Smith is coming off his most disappointing performance of the season against the Texas Tech Red Raiders in which he completed just 29 of 55 passes for 275 yards and just one touchdown. On the bright side, Smith still has 25 touchdowns and zero interception on the season–which is why he remains on the top of this list heading into Week 8.
