Rant and Rise: New England Patriots and Houston Texans Win, San Francisco Giants Force Game 7

Here’s the latest edition of Rant and Rise for October 22, 2012:

New England Patriots Hold Off New York Jets in Overtime

The Patriots should consider themselves lucky to be in sole possession of first place in the AFC East after a close 29-26 overtime win over the Jets on Sunday–especially since they blew a 10-point lead with less than six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Rob Gronkowski led the way for New England’s offense after finishing the game with 78 receiving yards to go along with two touchdowns, but the argument can be made that New York should have won this game after missing out on numerous opportunities.

Houston Texans Bounce Back With Big Win Over Baltimore Ravens

After an embarrassing loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 6, the Texans bounced back with a big 43-13 win over the Ravens on Sunday to make a statement that they are still the top team in the AFC. The defense led the way for Houston in this one after limiting Ray Rice to just 42 rushing yards and holding Joe Flacco to completing just 21 of 43 passes for 147 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.

San Francisco Giants Force Game 7 Against St. Louis Cardinals

The Giants continue to win when it matters the most in elimination games after their 6-1 win over the Cardinals on Sunday to force Game 7 on Monday night in the NLCS. Ryan Vogelsong came up big once again for San Francisco after pitching seven strong innings and allowing just one earned run with nine strikeouts.

All of a sudden, it comes down to one game to determine who will represent the National League in this year’s World Series.
