Rant-O-Matic: 2012 World Series Game 1 Preview Between Detroit Tigers and San Francisco Giants
Here’s the latest edition of Rant-O-Matic for October 24, 2012:
After plenty of excitement throughout the postseason, the World Series is here as the Tigers are set to square off against the Giants. While Detroit returns to the big show for the first time since 2006, San Francisco is looking to flirt with the honors of being part of a dynasty by winning their second title in three years.
The Giants have displayed one of the most historical runs in postseason history after going 6-0 in elimination games over the last few weeks. After overcoming a 2-0 deficit to the Cincinnati Reds in the NLDS, they managed to come back from a 3-1 deficit to the St. Louis Cardinals in the NLCS and allowed just one run over the final three games.
As for the Tigers, they made a memorable run themselves at the end of the season as they took advantage of the slumping Chicago White Sox to earn their second-straight AL Central title. There’s no question this series should live up to the hype and it begins Wednesday with an interesting matchup between Justin Verlander and Barry Zito.
Verlander has been nearly perfect for Detroit this postseason as he’s gone 3-0 while allowing just two earned runs to go along with 25 strikeouts. As for Zito, he’s 2-0 this postseason with a 1.74 ERA and looks to continue his impressive 2012 campaign as he went 15-8 during the regular season.
San Francisco’s offense may be hot coming off their series against St. Louis, but it’s difficult not to go with Detroit in this one with Verlander on the mound.
