Here’s the latest edition of Rant-O-Matic for October 25, 2012:
Turns out having five days rest didn’t work in the favor of the Tigers as they were lit up by the Giants in Game 1 on Wednesday 8-3 thanks to three home runs by Pablo Sandoval–who joined Babe Ruth, Reggie Jackson, and Albert Pujols as the only players in MLB history to do so in the World Series. Justin Verlander failed to make it to the fifth inning as he allowed five earned runs and only struck out four batters.
On Thursday, Doug Fister will take the mound for Detroit as he looks to help his team avoid an 0-2 deficit and continue his postseason success. Fister has been nothing short of phenomenal for the Tigers so far this postseason as he’s 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA in two starts.
As for San Francisco, they could be in for a long night as Madison Bumgarner takes the mound and looks to avoid his third loss of the postseason. Bumgarner is 0-2 with a 11.25 ERA in the playoffs, so if the Tigers were to take advantage of any pitcher in San Francisco–Thursday would be the perfect game to do so.
At 5-2, the Vikings have been one of the biggest surprises of 2012 and could be in for their sixth win of the season against the 2-4 Buccaneers on Thursday. Adrian Peterson appears to be fully recovered from the torn ACL he suffered in Week 16 last season as he leads the league with 787 yards from the line of scrimmage.
However, Minnesota’s defense will need to figure out a way to shut down Josh Freeman–who has thrown for 748 passing yards and six touchdowns over the last two weeks–and the Tampa Bay passing game if they have any chance of improving to 6-2 on the season.
