Rant-O-Matic: Previewing NBA Opening Night With Boston Celtics and Miami Heat, Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers

Here’s the latest edition of Rant-O-Matic for October 30, 2012:

Boston Celtics vs. Miami Heat

If last year’s Eastern Conference Finals is any indication of what to expect on opening night–Tuesday’s matchup between the Celtics and Heat could be fun for basketball fans to watch.

The Heat will be looking to defend their title after defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Finals last season. Now that the Heat finally have that first title under their belts following the acquisitions of LeBron James and Chris Bosh to play alongside Dwyane Wade two years ago, they won’t be facing as much pressure to win the title–which could work to their advantage.

This rivalry has developed into one of the best over the last couple of years and now that Ray Allen is a member of Miami–the rivalry just got that much better.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Los Angeles Lakers

All eyes will be on the Lakers on opening night as Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Steve Nash, and Dwight Howard will finally play their first regular season game together–assuming Bryant ends up playing after dealing with a foot injury the last week. Even though Los Angeles went 0-8 during the preseason, they should be ready to go against a Dallas team that will be starting the season without Dirk Nowitzki–who is recovering from offseason knee surgery.

These two teams certainly have the potential to come out on top in the Western Conference–so it should be interesting to see how opening night goes.
