Ranter X: Looking Back at the 2012 NFL Season

Here’s Ranter X’s top five moments from the 2012 NFL season.

5. Adrian Peterson and Calvin Johnson

Both stars had career years in 2012 as Johnson set the single-season receiving record with 1,964 yards. As for Peterson, not only did he fall nine yards short of the single-season rushing record, but he single-handedly helped the Minnesota Vikings clinch a playoff spot in the NFC for the first time since 2009.

4. Andy Reid and the Philadelphia Eagles

For a team with Super Bowl expectations at the beginning of 2012, this season was nothing but a disappointment for the Eagles as they finished with just four wins. What’s even more disappointing–the team decided to part ways with Reid on Monday after 14 seasons that consisted of six division titles and five trips to the NFC Championship game.

3. Washington Redskins and Robert Griffin III

Nobody could have predicted RGIII and the Redskins on top of the NFC East at the end of the season–especially after starting off the year with a 3-6 record. After ending the season on a seven-game winning streak, Washington enters the playoffs as one of the hottest teams in football–which could be trouble for the rest of the NFC.

2. Seattle Seahawks and Russell Wilson

Everybody knew the Seahawks had a chance to be contenders in 2012 with the emergence of their defense in 2011, but did anybody expect them to look this dominant? The argument can be made Seattle is one of the hottest teams in football heading into January and one of the main reasons why has been due to the phenomenal play by Wilson as a rookie.

1. Chuck Pagano and Indianapolis Colts

No team has displayed a better feel-good story in 2012 than Pagano and the Colts. After the head coach was diagnosed with leukemia back in September, Indianapolis has been inspired ever since as they’ve bounced back from a disappointing two-win season to earning the No. 5 seed in the AFC playoffs.
