The Super Bowl MVP trophy is one of the most heralded in all of sports as it shows who came to play on Americas favorite NFL Sunday. Super Bowl XLVII is particularly interesting with plenty of possible MVP’s, but we narrowed it down to the five who have the best odds.
Ray Lewis is the only player on either team who has won a Super Bowl MVP in the past, so we’ll have to see if his experience reigns supreme once again or if newcomers like Colin Kaepernick, who tops our list, are more likely to win this years MVP. In fact, the quarterback position has fared pretty well over time, as 28 Super Bowl MVP’s have been quarterbacks.
The San Francisco 49ers have had more luck then their counterpart as they have brought home five Lombardi trophies (as opposed to the Ravens lone title in 2010) and four of the 49ers five Super Bowl MVP winners have gone to quarterbacks.
However, the MVP doesn’t always go to the guy underneath center, as Santonio Holmes won the award in Super Bowl XLIII with nine catches for 131 yards, and a touchdown that Pittsburgh Steelers fans will not soon forget. Lewis is also not the only defensive player to win, as eight different defensive players have hoisted the award in the leagues history.
In my mind, the award could go to anyone of these five but, I left Vernon Davis off of this list who many believe will have a major impact on the aging Baltimore Ravens secondary.
