Lindsey Vonn Suffers Torn ACL and MCL
Sad news in the skiing world on Tuesday as Lindsey Vonn suffered a serious injury during a super-G run at the world championships on Tuesday in which she tore her ACL and MCL. The injury took place following a jump when Vonn lost balance of her right leg while trying to make a land and eventually hit a gate before she was airlifted to the hospital.
Obviously, these are the types of injuries you hate to see with professional athletes and for someone with a history of injuries–it’s a shame to see this happen to someone like Vonn. What makes things even worse for the popular skier–there’s no telling whether or not this will keep her out of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia one year from now.
It’s no secret the ACL and MCL injuries are serious to recover from and with the amount of time it takes, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Vonn wasn’t ready in time for Russia next season. Then again, we’ve been living in a world where professional athletes are recovering from this injury much quicker than usual–so maybe there is hope for Vonn after all.
Either way, it’s a shame to see Vonn suffer this type of injury at this point in her career and we wish her a speedy recovery. Vonn has always been one of the most popular athletes in the world to follow and it would be a shame to see her miss out on participating in a big event like the Winter Olympics one year from now.
