Former MLB Players Team Up With Soldiers For Spring Training With the Troops

One of the best parts of professional sports is when athletes take the time out of their day to show their appreciation for troops around the world. FOX Sports is currently working with former MLB players such as David Justice, Heath Bell and Wade Boggs. These former MLB stars, as well as a few members of the FOX Sports Girls, teamed up to participate on a goodwill trip to U.S. Army Garrison Grafenwoehr in Germany–which happens to be one of the top premier training bases in the world.

Not only did these former players and FOX Sports Girls receive the opportunity to meet other soldiers, but both parties received the opportunity to get a taste of one another’s worlds. While the attendees received the opportunity to train with the soldiers for a taste of what their daily workouts were like, the MLB players decided to bring their skills into action by organizing a youth baseball clinic of their own.

On top of the clinic, the participants visited schools that were on the base and even organized a competitive game of wiffle ball in an event called “Spring Training to the Troops,” which consisted of the MLB players and soldiers from the 709th Military Police Battalion and the 172nd Infantry Brigade.

Be sure to check out the teaser from the game consisting of Justice, Bell, Boggs, the FOX Sports Girls and soldiers in the video. Fans can check out more coverage from the wiffle ball game along with other clips from the trip during Spring training coverage, which can be found on Fox’s regional sports networks.
