The PGA tour is getting more popular with each stoke of the club and with the kind of star-studded group that the WGC-Cadillac Championship is featuring this year, the ratings are going to be excellent. Not too often do the top three golfers in the land all get grouped to tee-off together, but Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods and Luke Donald will all be teeing off at 11:53 on Thursday.
This is going to be a great exhibition as all three golfers are guaranteed to play into the weekend at Doral which is a no-cut event. Surely, these three are extremely competitive and it will be great to see who comes out on top before the weekend hits.
Although Woods had awful showing at the Honda Classic last week the talk surrounding this event has focused on the tooth-pain that hindered the #1 golfer in the world, McIlroy. After bailing last weekend Rory has since apologized for disappointing his sponsors and fans, however I’m not buying a rebound for this guy just yet. Since signing a $20M with Nike in the offseason McIlroy has been dreadful and it just culminated last week when he simply couldn’t take more than 26 holes at the Honda Classic.
Oddly enough, Donald heads into this event as an underdog even though he is the third ranked player in the world and has spent time at the number one spot as recent as April of 2012. We have yet to see what 2013 has in store for Donald as he has started twice since January–the time off could either help or hurt him.
I think Woods is going to steal the show in this one as he won the tournament back in 2007 and has success on this course. Not to mention Rory is struggling mightily and Tiger has to see that #1 ranking just waiting for him to capture it again.
