What to Watch For in Historical 2013 Big East Conference Tournament
With the new NCAAB realignment set to take effect in the Summer of 2013, the Big East Conference tournament is going by the wayside after this year. It has been a bracket of great teams and even better games with this season being no different.
The favorites to take home the Big East Conference Tournament are the Louisville Cardinals who won the same tourney last season when the defeated the Cincinnati Bearcats 50-44 in the championship game. This year the Bearcats will be threats once again and it will start for them on Wednesday afternoon when they take on the Providence College Friars who are also heading into this game with a must-win attitude. Louisville also has a historic opportunity as they could become the first team since Syracuse in 2005-06 to win the Big East tournament two years in a row. This would be a huge boost for a Rick Petino club that has excelled with senior guard Peyton Siva leading the way.
A possible matchup that everyone is talking about is the battle between the Georgetown Hoyas and Syracuse Orange later in the week. Here are two teams that are poised to make their mark on a conference that has been so good to them in years previous. I have high hopes for both of these teams come National Tournament time, however both still have something to prove. The Hoyas also have a little added motivation with a #1 seed possibly coming the program’s way on selection sunday.
Madison Square Garden will play host to the tournament for the last time and it will be a sad day when the curtain finally closes on what will be a fantastic 2013 Big East tournament.
