2013 ACC Tournament Preview: Duke Blue Devils the Favorite in Greensboro?

It’s been a wild year in the ACC, but the team that has the most potential to win the ACC Tournament did not want the regular season title.

Miami (FL) is the top ranked team in the bracket, but Duke has been the team that has been getting all the credit recently. Since Ryan Kelly returned from injury, the Blue Devils have not lost. With Kelly in the lineup this season, Duke is 18-0 heading into the ACC Tournament.

With a No. 1 seed up for grabs, Duke will certainly be focused on capturing a conference tournament crown by the tail end of this week and you know head coach Mike Krzyzewski will have these guys focused on doing just that.

However, other teams in the field are declaring some attention of their own. Both Virginia and Maryland find themselves on the bubble and although the Cavaliers have a little bit more wiggle room than the Terps, both need to make some noise if they hope to hear their name called on Selection Sunday.

In between the heavyweights and potential bubble squads reside a couple dark horse threats. Yes, we’re talking about North Carolina and North Carolina State.

A smaller, much quicker lineup has propelled the Tar Heels into March having won six of their last seven games overall. As for the Wolfpack, well they are a squad that certainly has the talent to make a statement.

Want proof?

Just look at last season’s run to the Sweet 16.

Many expect Duke to rise up and run away with the ACC Tournament title, but there are a few squads that have other thoughts in that regard.
