Here we are again.
If you have not seen the highlights or clips from the Syracuse – Georgetown rivalry on SportsCenter within the last week or so, then shame on you. Just six days ago, the two squared off in Washington D.C. for what was highly anticipated to be the final Big East meeting between the two squads.
Well, the college basketball gods have disagreed and a third match-up is on the docket in the Big East Tournament semifinals this Friday.
Entering their final season as conference foes, the Hoyas certainly have held the upper hand. A big time performance from Georgetown sophomore and National Player of the Year candidate Otto Porter in the team’s first meeting, virtually sealed Syracuse’s fate in the Carrier Dome.
Following a win on the road, you knew that the Hoyas were going to be the favorite going into last weekend’s rematch. Well, Georgetown once again got the best of their hated rival, stifling their offensive attack with a little taste of their own medicine: a zone defense.
Now however, the Orange are hoping that the third time is the charm and more importantly, there is a trip to the Big East Conference Tournament championship on the line in this one.
So, what more could a diehard Big East fan ask for in the final few days of conference tournament action as we know it? Well, how about of the league’s most famous and hard fought rivalry at the forefront for a trip to the championship bout.
Yes, that certainly fits the bill.
