Big East Tournament: Syracuse, Louisville Set For Championship Showdown

The Big East Conference as we know it is down to one final game.

The third time was the charm in the first of Friday night’s semifinal match-ups, as Syracuse and head coach Jim Boeheim got the best of Georgetown. In our of the league’s most heated rivalries, the Orange got the last laugh despite being swept by the Hoyas during the regular season.

On the flip side of the bracket, it was Louisville who advanced by defeating Notre Dame. The Cardinals, who are the defending Big East Tournament champions, will be looking to end the Big East as we know it, with back-to-back titles.

Ironically enough, the Cardinals will be looking to become the first team with back-to-back Big East Conference Tournament championships since Syracuse did it back in 2005 and 2006.

While the front court match-up in this one will certainly be interesting with Louisville boasting Gorgui Dieng and Chane Behanan, but the Orange have a deep and lengthy front court presence that will look to build an advantage of their own in this one.

The key to this game very well could be the point guard situation. Peyton Siva, who starred on this stage at Madison Square Garden a season ago, will look to end his collegiate career on top from a conference perspective. Syracuse senior Brandon Triche might have something to say about that, however. Michael Carter-Williams will also be a handful in the back court for the Orange.

One more match-up remains on the docket for the Big East before conference realignment goes into effect this upcoming off season, so buckle up, Saturday night in Madison Square Garden should certainly providing a thrilling atmosphere.
