2013 NCAA Tournament Bracket: South Region Predictions
Second Round Predictions:
No. 1 Kansas vs. No. 16 Western Kentucky- The Jayhawks are way too much for the Hilltoppers. Kansas advances, simple as that.
No. 8 North Carolina vs. No. 9 Villanova- This is a tough match-up for both teams, so expect a game that will go down to the wire. North Carolina has been progressing forward very well since January and they’ll keep things going here with a win over the Wildcats.
No. 5 VCU vs. No. 12 Akron- The Zips had a great season and Zeke Marshall will be a handful in this one. However, no Alex Abreu for Akron, no chance against VCU’s “havoc” defense. Rams move forward.
No. 4 Michigan vs. No. 13 South Dakota State- The Jackrabbits gave Baylor all they could handle in the Round of 64 a season ago and they’ll do the same to Michigan in this one. Trey Burke will take over when necessary, but watch out for South Dakota State’s Nate Wolters. Wolverines advance.
No. 6 UCLA vs. No. 11 Minnesota- Shabazz Muhammad may be one and done and so too could the Bruins. UCLA will need their A-Game in this one despite the advantage in seeding. Minnesota is tough and the Golden Gophers will get the win here.
No. 3 Florida vs. No. 14 Northwestern State- The Gators came up short in the SEC Tournament championship game, but no problems in this one. Move Florida into the next round.
No. 6 San Diego State vs. No. 11 Oklahoma- The Aztecs were a bit under the radar in the Mountain West this year, but boy are they still dangerous. Jamaal Franklin should shine, as San Diego State moves past Oklahoma in this one.
No. 2 Georgetown vs. No. 15 Florida Gulf Coast- The Eagles will be a handful as a 15-seed, but Georgetown and Otto Porter Jr. are just too much. The Hoyas advance.
Third Round Predictions:
No. 1 Kansas vs. No. 8 North Carolina- Roy Williams vs. his old team in the Round of 32. Perfect, but not far Tar Heel fans. The Jayhawks are too much for UNC in this one.
No. 5 VCU vs. No. 4 Michigan- The Rams could be a nice pick here, but their pressure defense certainly hasn’t had to stop anyone to Trey Burke’s caliber this year. The Wolverines will tough this one out, but it certainly won’t be easy.
No. 11 Minnesota vs. No. 3 Florida- The Gophers could make a run in the bracket, but this is a tough third round match-up. Florida is once again too talented to succumb this early. Move the Gators into the Sweet 16.
No. 7 San Diego State vs. No. 12 Georgetown- This could be a tough match-up for the Hoyas, but the play on the perimeter will be key. If Georgetown can win that battle, they will win this game. Hoyas moves forward to the West Regional semifinal.
