We all know the name by now.
Marshall Henderson is on the verge of taking the NCAA Tournament by storm, whether you like it or not.
The junior guard led the SEC this season in averaging over 20 points per game. He followed suit by guiding the Rebels into the Big Dance by way of a SEC Tournament championship in which case he earned MVP honors. Now, Henderson has keyed Ole Miss’ first NCAA Tournament victory since 2001, scoring 19 points in Friday afternoon’s upset victory over No. 5 Wisconsin.
Henderson receives some criticism for his reckless shot selection and attitude, which is exactly what presents that “love ‘em or hate ‘em” situation. Henderson scored a game-high 19 points on Friday afternoon, but needed 21 shots to get there. After struggling in the first half, scoring two points on 1-of-11 shooting, Henderson heated up and became the difference maker late in the ball game.
By that time, Henderson was doing “Marshall Henderson Things” getting the crowd and his teammates fired up with his emotional attitude and antics. During the game, Miami Heat stat LeBron James even tweeted about Henderson, saying, “He has the greenest light in the history of basketball.”
Well, LeBron they kind of need him to. He did just lead them to their first tournament victory 12 years.
Henderson and the Rebels are moving into the Round of 32 where they will face No. 13 LaSalle on Sunday afternoon.
College basketball fans are surely looking forward to seeing what Henderson will do next.
